What is AI roleplay chat?

AI roleplay is an interactive fictional conversation: you write your character’s words and actions, and an AI writes another character’s response. A scene can become a friendship, a mystery, a fantasy adventure or a romance. You help decide what happens next rather than choosing only from a fixed script.

Koimo is built around character chat and shared stories. Meet an original character, create a new one or bring a supported character card. Your conversations can use plain dialogue, short actions in asterisks or a mixture of both. There is no need to write a paragraph when one line fits the moment.

These are fictional AI conversations. Characters can make mistakes, contradict a detail or misunderstand a scene. You can correct the story and keep going.

Anime-inspired romance and city nights

Akane has four minutes between jazz sets and a notebook of songs she has never performed. Rin is recording the city from a rooftop. Aya missed the last train and wants to make a night of it. Start with a conversation; let the relationship develop through choices.

Fantasy roleplay

Elowen guards the last lantern before a dangerous forest. Soren keeps a library whose ledger seems to know your next move. Decide why you have arrived, then explore one unanswered question at a time.

Sci-fi and mystery

Ask Yuki what really happened on the flight that grounded her, or investigate an impossible photograph with Nao. A clue or a disagreement gives these stories more momentum than a generic introduction.

Cozy slice of life

Ren’s record shop is closed, but the lights are still on. Talk about music, wait out the rain or help close up. A scene does not need a crisis to be worth returning to.

Your first scene in three moves.

1. Choose a character. Browse the original cast, then sign in and find them in your library. Or use the character editor to make someone of your own.
2. Give them something to answer. React to the opening, ask a specific question or do one small thing in the scene. “I set the photograph down. Who else has seen this?” is enough.
3. Leave room for a reply. Write your own actions and choices. Let the character decide theirs. If the tone drifts, say what you want to change and resume from the current moment.

For a quieter scene, say so. For slow-burn romance, establish the relationship gradually. If you want a platonic story, make that clear. Our AI roleplay prompts offer eight openings you can adapt.

Is Koimo free?

The free chat allowance is 50 messages a day. Local character-card and chat conversion is free and does not require an account. Chat requires an account; your current allowance appears in the app.

Can I bring my own characters?

Yes. Use the import tool for supported character-card and chat files. The character definition and conversation history are separate files; keep both. See the Character.AI backup guide if you are moving from C.AI. Official Character.AI account-export parsing is not supported yet.

Can I keep my writing?

Koimo exports character cards in V2/V3 formats and conversations as JSONL, Markdown or HTML. Keep an original backup as well as a converted copy. A different model or app may interpret the same character differently.

What kind of roleplay is allowed?

Koimo is for adults 18+. Romance, drama and dark themes are welcome; explicit scenes fade to black. Read the content policy for boundaries.
